WHITE MATERIAL

If you are reading me in the Triad area, I urge you to go see White Material Monday night at a/perture.

Once again French filmmaker Claire Denis is telling a powerful story of colonialism and Africa.  Though she was born in Paris, Denis was brought up in several African countries.

In White Material, Isabelle Huppert is magnificent as a white woman running a family-owned coffee plantation in an unnamed African country during a time of great unrest in her own family and between government forces and rebels in the region.

This is a film that brings home on an emotional level many topical elements we read about in the headlines or see in documentaries. All of it is exquisitely well done.

White Material is showing Monday night only as part of the Cineclub series at a/perture so March 14 at 8 p.m. is the only scheduled screening date.  Don’t miss it.
