Atlanta

If you haven’t been watching Donald Glover’s breakout show Atlanta, you should.

I recorded the second season while away last semester, and have been enjoying a binge-worthy catchup this week.

Yesterday I got up to the penultimate episode of the season, “FUBU,” and couldn’t delete the episode even after completing the season finale. Continue reading “Atlanta”

RBG

If you haven’t seen the new documentary about Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, put it on your list.

It has been awhile since a film has moved me so profoundly. Sitting next to my mother at the movies, I found myself crying tears of gratitude for Ginsburg’s tireless work.

She is a force, and her work–especially in the 1970s–changed the status of women in the United States and moved us toward gender equality.

Morning Sustenance

I made a pleasant discovery this morning.

While eating my customary breakfast of oatmeal/quinoa/almond-flavored non-dairy beverage and watching the episode of The Fourth Estate I automatically recorded last night, I found that I can go ahead and stream the final episode of the season.

My Take on ROSEANNE

When I was teaching in Copenhagen last semester, I didn’t watch much American TV, but I did read newspapers online.

The weekend before Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet and the cancellation of the series, I actually sat down and watched the new episodes and was surprised that I didn’t find it patently offensive as I expected to based on what I had read.

THE AMERICANS

If you are left puzzling over the hoopla surrounding the series finale of The Americans, it’s high time you started watching the show.

The praise for the series is deserved, and there is a special pleasure in starting a binge-worthy show after it wraps because of the instant gratification of watching episode after episode until you just can’t watch any more.

The Americans is worth the time and attention.
