Three Don’t Miss Movies

So…I keep hearing people talk about what a terrible year this has been for movies. Hmmmmm…I haven’t been thinking about it that way.

I have seen three, small-ish, character-driven movies in recent months that seem flawless to me: The Big SickBattle of the Sexes, and Lady Bird.

About This Blog…

I have neglected this blog over the last year or so in favor of book projects.sitcom reader 2 cover

Admittedly, those have been important works, at least to me – a new edition of The Sitcom Reader, a new edition of The Hollywood Curriculum, a new edited volume Screen Lessons, and three titles of edited student essays continuing the Critical Media Studies series on Deadwood, Contemporary Sitcoms, and Education and Popular Culture. Whew!

Remembering Denise Franklin

Over eight years ago, I started begging Denise Franklin, then WFDD Station Manager, for a blog. Before that, I had already contributed media commentary on a regular basis to the station for over five years on a couple of different programs.

It took awhile for me to convince her, but after she said yes, Denise regularly contacted me with ideas for posts. She was always full of ideas.
