UNFINISHED SONG

A grumpy old man is happily married to a woman who is very ill with cancer, and her greatest joy is singing with a local senior citizen choir.

It’s impossible not to know exactly what is coming in Unfinished Song (originally titled Song for Marian), but Terence Stamp and Vanessa Redgrave are so good in their roles as the couple that you may not care about the predictability of the plot.

This seems a good moment to note (again) that little films like this set in some nameless town in the United Kingdom are pleasant and spare in a way that Hollywood seldom manages.

It is what it is, and Paul Andrew Williams lets the actors have their way without mucking it up.  Films like this make for a pleasant afternoon at the movies with my mother, and there isn’t much out there anymore that she is particularly eager to see.
