QUEER EYE and Indexing!

May I say that the third season of Queer Eye is perfect for binge watching while book indexing!

I cry a little during most episodes in the happiest way — thank you, Netflix — and am enjoying the larger budgets the series seems to have this season because it allows our consultants to make bigger changes for the participants in the episodes.

I also have to add that this show, with its ethos of connecting people across difference (or perceived difference), is particularly a joy to watch in our polarized times.

Talk about uplifting TV!

There is too little of that positive energy coming in through our screens (small and large) even in the era of peak TV, which seems dangerous to me because, on some level and to some degree, I believe people over time become what they consume.

Binging keeps me at the computer longer than I might otherwise be able to manage. This is not only the busiest time of my semester (exams and papers and projects to grade), but I am also in the thick of finishing up two book projects with my research partner Laura R. Linder.

The task at hand this week is to finish indexing an anthology we are editing. One important measure of a good scholarly book is the quality of the index, and I’m proud of the one we are crafting now.

Here’s a sneak peak for you of our front cover.

We’re pretty excited about the cover, not to mention all of the pages that follow.

I have several ideas for short posts coming up, so stay tuned!
