I’ve been putting off writing about Frozen for over a week.

It’s not just the grading and the end of semester meetings that have me swamped (though that’s true, too). I’m ambivalent about the movie.

The gender interplay is terrific. I love that women, sisters, must work together rather than compete (so often for a man but not here!) to solve the big problems. I also appreciate the critique of the “love at first sight” element embedded into so many fairy tales.

But, the pacing seems a bit off to me, and the film seems a little long without enough magic.

Final assessment: good but not great.
