I have a special place in my heart for the Carolina Film and Video Festival (CFVF) at UNCG.  Not just because it is the oldest student-run film festival in North Carolina but because it is the first film festival I ever attended…a long time ago!

The 2011 CFVF is coming to the Elliott University Center (EUC) Auditorium on the UNCG campus February 23-26 with 27 films by student and independent filmmakers.

Opening night includes a great selection of films from high school students, including Ethan Corn’s Barnabus and Bella, a musical comedy filmed entirely in Latin.

Thursday night is a presentation of work by local filmmakers. Wolf Call (Dir. Rob Underhill) is an adaptation of an interview with Roy Bryant Jr. and J.W. Milam, conducted by William Bradford Huie of Look magazine in 1956, after the two men were acquitted for the murder of Emmett Till. Mike Wiley, a Triangle stage favorite, crafted the story from public record and tackles all three roles in this powerful short film.

Friday and Saturday night will feature a variety of short films from the United States, Kosovo, Brazil, and Spain.
