BLACK-ISH

During over two months so far of living in Copenhagen, I’ve turned the TV on in the apartment where I’m staying less than a half dozen times.

All of the interesting programs are Danish (which I do not understand), and the American and British imports (subtitled in Danish, of course) are shows I’ve already seen or would not watch at home.

In case inquiring minds want to know, there is a Say Yes To The Dress Danmark. I know because I saw a promo, which is about as close as I’ll get to this show here or at home.

Hold the remote!

For some reason, I flipped on the TV this morning while eating breakfast and saw the pilot episode of Black-ish on the screen.

To be candid, the first episode of Black-ish rubbed me the wrong way. I was afraid that the series would perpetuate more stereotypes than it would challenge.

I was wrong.

The series is one of the most insightful, culturally significant, and (often) funny shows to come along in recent years.

Good to know this sitcom has made its way to Denmark, but I wish more people were watching it in the United States.

They might learn an important thing or two…
