It’s unusual to see characters in their 80s (and after 61 years and seven children together) to show passion as well as deep bonding. But, I’m all for it.

James Cromwell and Geneviève Bujold play Craig and Irene Morrison in yet another “true story.” Seems like every third movie in recent months makes the claim of being “true” or at least “inspired by true events.”

When this Canadian farm couple confront Irene’s memory and mobility troubles with Craig’s plan to build them a smaller, more navigable house, he comes up against the local building inspector and a lot of rules that conflict with the way his shipbuilder father taught him to build years before.

The plot is less important than the performances and emotional truths exposed. Those ring true, especially the difficult ones, and carry the film to unexpected highs. Still Mine is a little gem of a film.
